5 Tips to Find a Career YOU LOVE!

Do you ever feel stuck in the status quo where everyone believes it’s OK to get up in the morning to go to a job they don’t like … and even believe that everybody hates work, so what’s the big deal?!

It’s time for a change. It’s time for a change for the sake of your mental health and well-being.

So, I’d like to invite you to make this year your BEST career year, and to invite you to take the necessary steps to find a career YOU LOVE!

In this post, the following 5 steps will help you transition from your current career to your dream career.

STEP 1. GET CLEAR ABOUT YOUR CAREER GOAL

Get REALLY clear about what it is you actually want to do. When you can clearly identify your next career step, you can confidently step away from your current career and go into the next career.

STEP 2. CREATE A PROFESSIONAL RESUME THAT HIGHLIGHTS YOUR POTENTIAL

Take the time to identify your transferable skills. Often when we’re doing this transition from one career to the next, we’re completely changing fields or completely changing roles so you want to be able to present to potential employers, if you’ll be staying in the workforce, what it is you have to offer. This is going to be presented in the resume and the cover letter. You want to learn how to properly highlight your potential to employers.

STEP 3. DEVELOP A UNIQUE PROFILE

Prepare strong and unique answers for the interview so you have a competitive advantage. What I’ve noticed with the clients I’ve worked with is this nervousness around having the right answer. It’s not about having the “right” answer, it’s about having a truthful, honest, and authentic answer so the employer can see if it’s going to be a good fit. So, when you’re really clear about your next career step, when you’re preparing these answers then you know why you would be the strongest candidate for a role.

STEP 4. RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES THAT FIT YOUR CAREER AMBITIONS

Focus your time and energy on the career search. Have you been spending endless hours sending out resumes and not getting a favourable response? This is the #1 struggle for most job seekers because only 10% of jobs are actually available online. So 90% of jobs can only be found if you go out into the world and conduct an active job search. If you feel the career you would love is not popping up online, it’s because you need to do the research and take the necessary steps to find out where to find it, and make it a reality.

STEP 5. BUILD GENUINE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER PROFESSIONALS

This step is about stepping out of your comfort zone to build genuine relationships with people so you can find a career you LOVE. The career you will love is the whole package. It’s not just about having a specific job title, it’s about being in an environment where you feel good and having positive interactions with your colleagues. In building relationships, you’re meeting new people, finding out about what they do, what their role entails, and you’re discovering jobs that you might not even know exist.

YOUR dream career is out there and I want to invite you to take the necessary steps to find it or even create it; but, you don’t have to do this alone.

If you’re ready to change careers but you’re not sure what’s next and you’ve been struggling with the job search, or even to dive into the search, I would like to invite you to join me in successfully finding a career YOU LOVE!
